Rhian Hughes, BA (Industrial)
Since beginning my studies at Leeds, I was been able to be a part of such a variety of different things. Through my studies, I have been able to focus on the music I enjoy, as well as getting to perform in the school ensembles.
Throughout my time here, I have been able to get involved with a number of performance societies. During my second year, I was elected to the role of Publicity Officer for Leeds University Union Music Society (LUUMS). I had so much fun doing this role, and it gave me some really great experience, all of which I have used to build up a strong CV.
My experience as a member of the LUUMS executive committee also helped me gain a placement for my Industry Year, where I worked at Wildkat PR. To have this opportunity as part of my degree was absolutely fantastic! Spending a year in the ‘real world’ gave me a great insight into what I can expect from life after university, as well as really opening my eyes to the different roles available within the arts sector.
The University has such a brilliant Student Union too, with hundreds of different societies. I’ve been able to play in bands for musicals, as well as be involved on the production team for Stage Musicals Society’s (SMS) recent production of High School Musical. Other societies have allowed me the opportunity to build up others skills, such as photography, which is one of my passions outside of music. Having had all of these wonderful experiences, I feel far better prepared for the world post-graduation – most of which I definitely wouldn’t have been able to do if I hadn’t come to Leeds!
