School of Music

Max Erwin

Max ErwinI am originally from Franklin, Tennessee in the United States of America. In receipt of the Herbert Thompson scholarship, I am a recent graduate with an MA in Critical and Applied Musicology at the University of Leeds.

The School of Music has such a great diversity of students and staff, all interested in and actively pursuing extremely diverse areas of study and practice. I love the thriving cultural and social scene in Leeds. In addition to Leeds itself, within great proximity of the university, the cities of both Huddersfield and Manchester have vibrant contemporary music scenes and the potential for collaborations, performances and involvement with nearby students and faculties are boundless!

My research is focused upon European integral serialism and the cultural foundations of late romantic opera and film music. I have recently prepared a modern critical edition of Karel Goeyvaerts’ orchestral work Diaphonie (1957) and I am currently preparing a comprehensive examination of Herman van San’s unpublished work.

Prior to coming to Leeds, I graduated cum laude from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts on a Presidential scholarship. I have composed for a diverse range of performers, ensembles, and opera collectives, scoring over 30 film, TV, video game, commercial, and multimedia projects to date.
