Pip Ridgway, MA Music and Management
As a graduate of the BA Music (International) programme, I have loved every minute of my time here in Leeds and the School of Music. Though I studied piano as my first instrument before university, I have focused on vocal study throughout my time at Leeds and have had some fantastic opportunities whilst I have been here.
Throughout my degree I have sung with the Clothworkers’ Consort of Leeds, a choir for staff and students, and toured with them in Budapest. I love singing with a choir of such high calibre. I also sing in the School of Music choir as part of the Ensemble Performance module every year, participating in programmes such as Handel’s Israel in Egypt and Britten’s Five Flower Songs and Rejoice in the Lamb.
After my second year I went on a Study Abroad placement in Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA) to study at the University of New Mexico. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn more about myself and another culture, which was extremely different to that of Leeds, and it really prepared me for my final year in Leeds and life after graduation.
In my final year, I undertook a dissertation investigating Christian popular music, and analysed a mainstream electronic album for my analysis project. These modules that I have taken allow me to do exactly what I want in my degree, which means that I really enjoy studying and am passionate about my work. I have really loved my time at Leeds and look forward to the next step after graduation knowing that I have such a great foundation behind me.
