Bev Logan, BA Music (Industrial)
I am a recent graduate with a BA (Industry) from the School of Music. I fell in love with Leeds as a city: there is so much on offer! In my first year I grasped the opportunity to ‘dabble’ in various areas of study, whilst in my spare time taking part in many of the ensembles that the music society had to offer, especially the Folk Music and Music In The Community societies. In my second year, this grew into a role on the executive committee of music society (LUUMS), which saw us put on a whole series of concerts. In my second year, I continued to look into broad areas of music study both practical and academic, specifically film score creation, notation, aesthetics and pedagogy.
I seized the opportunity to take a year in industryduring my third year, working with Manchester Camerata as their Marketing and Development Assistant. Excitingly, after my placement, I was offered a part time job as their Concerts Assistant and Librarian, both roles that have allowed me to develop my skills in an ambitious organization and have helped me to shape ideas about my future career.
In my final year I was the elected Undergraduate Representative for the School of Music, and I liaised with students and staff in order to improve both the school and the wider university. I also worked at Leeds University Union (in the Hidden Café) and as a paid Concerts and Admission Intern within the School of Music, both roles that were a fun and flexible way to support my studies, and great opportunities to continue to hone the skills I developed during my year in industry.
Some of my highlights during my time at Leeds have been organising a concert at Leeds Town Hall, assisting and leading KS3 music lessons as part of the Students Into Schools programme, and the unwavering support and rapport between students and staff.
