PhD study enables students to pursue advanced, independent, original research under the guidance of one or two specialist supervisors.  For assessment, students will produce a thesis demonstrating an original contribution to knowledge and scholarship. The School of Music offers a supportive and stimulating environment for PhD research, welcoming students from all parts of the world.  Whatever your area of study you will have access to expert supervision and excellent practical resources.

You can study a PhD full time over three years or part time over five years.

At the end of the programme, candidates must present a thesis of 100,000 words maximum on the subject of his/her research.
