Simo Muir is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the AHRC funded project ‘Performing the Jewish Archive’. Muir’s research focuses on Jewish cantors and liturgical tradition in Finland based on archival material and ethnographic fieldwork. He is also working on Yiddish theatre in pre- and post-war Helsinki based on recently recovered manuscripts.

Biography

Simo Muir is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the AHRC funded project ‘Performing the Jewish Archive’. Muir’s research focuses on Jewish cantors and liturgical tradition in Finland based on archival material and ethnographic fieldwork. He is also working on Yiddish theatre in pre- and post-war Helsinki based on recently recovered manuscripts.

Muir’s previous research has focused on various aspects of the cultural and social history of Jews in Finland. Muir has written about the Yiddish dialect and language shifts among Jews in Finland, about Jewish-Finnish encounter, antisemitism in the 1930s, Finnish Holocaust historiography, Jewish leadership in Finland during and after the Holocaust and Jewish displaced persons in post-war Finland.
