Grant Success for Emeritus Professor
June 22nd, 2017
Professor Emeritus Richard Rastall has been awarded a Leverhulme Emeritus Fellowship for 2017-18 in connection with Volume 5 (the Sacred Songs) of his complete edition of the music of Martin Peerson (c1572-1651).
Volume 5 will be the largest volume of the edition, with the smallest also in preparation to complete the series. Volumes 1-4 are already published by Antico Edition and much of the edition is now on CD and download, performed by the Ex Cathedra Consort (Latin Motets, Hyperion), I Fagiolini, Fretwork and Sophie Yates (A Treatise of Human Love: Mottects or Grave Chamber Music, Regent and Sublime Discourse: John Milton and Martin Peerson, The Complete Instrumental Pieces, Regent).
The Leverhulme award will allow Professor Rastall to spend time in London and Oxford to complete transcriptions of the music, and to consult sources in Durham and York as well.
Professor Rastall has also published an article in the most recent issue of the journal The Consort (volume 73), ‘“An Individual Imagination”: Some Compositional Procedures in the Music of Martin Peerson’.
